1964: Demeris Bar-B-Q
The Demeris family has been feeding Houstonians since 1947. Currently, it’s the grandsons of Frank and Angelike Demeris that steer the family business. They include Frankie and Yonny Demeris, George Demeris and Billy Vlahakos, who bought out their parents about 16 years ago.
When you think about Houston barbecue, it’s easy to debate who has the best brisket, the best technique, the best sides. While all that is subjective, in any conversation about barbeque in Houston, it would be hard to leave out a family that’s been doing it for a half century: Demeris Bar-B-Que.
